How to Know God

"For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life."

(John 3:16)

God is Calling You

If you've gotten to this page, it's not because it was your idea. It is because God is calling you right now.

God the Creator

You see, God created you. He created this world. He even created this universe! He is also active in keeping the entire universe going. He gives us everything we need to survive. "In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." (Gen. 1:1)

People - the Sinful Creation

Sin seems like such an outdated idea. That's because nobody likes to think about what they've done wrong. But, every person who has ever lived has done wrong. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23)

Because God created everything, He sets laws that we are to follow. He set the law of gravity, the laws that govern electronics and He set a morale law. When we sin, we break that moral law. There is always a penalty for breaking a law. The penalty for breaking God's law is death. "For the wages (payment) of sin is death" (Rom. 6:23)

Christ - the Merciful Redeemer

But God loves us so much, that He made a way for the penalty of sin to be paid in full. He sent his Son Jesus Christ to die in our place. Jesus lived without ever sinning. Then He died not for His own sin but for ours.  He didn't stay dead, He rose from the dead (came back to life. "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

God did this even before we asked for it. In fact, even while you were doing the worst thing you've done, God still loved you. "But God commendeth (showed) His love toward us, in that, While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom. 5:8)

Because Christ took the penalty, He is able to give us salvation (freedom from our sins and the penalty of our sins) as a gift from Him. "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." (Eph. 2:8)

Our Necessary Response

We must receive this gift from God. We do this by admitting that we have sinned. Then believing that God provided a way for your sins to be paid for through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is called believing in Jesus and then saying so (praying to God and telling Him you believe). "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Rom. 10:9-10, 13)

This belief in Jesus is not just something you say and then walk away. It is a belief that causes a change in your life, because if you are serious, you have literally become a new you. You receive God's Holy Spirit with is nothing less than the life of Jesus Christ in you.  He exchanged your life to give you his own life. This gives you the supernatural empowerment you need to live in victory here on planet earth.  Jesus gave us the Bible, prayer and the church so that we might grow in the grace and knowledge of himself.  Mainly, that we might come to understand our identity in Jesus Christ!! If you don't have a Bible, you need to get one. It is the scriptures that God uses to show you his heart and who you are in Jesus Christ, because of the cross and the resurrection! Seek intimacy with Jesus Christ each day, as you would a good friend or a spouse. You do this simply by talking to him and telling him what's going on in your life. You also need to find a good church that will help encourage you and equip you to learn more about walking with Jesus Christ.
